Learners enrolling into this qualification will be required to transition into new qualification MEM30319 Certificate III in Engineering Fabrication Trade prior to 20 May 2020 at the latest, this process is anticipated to be undertaken prior to this date.

This qualification provides a trade outcome as an Engineering Tradesperson – Fabrication in the metal, engineering, manufacturing and associated industries or other industries where Engineering Tradespersons – Fabrication (Light Fabrication – Sheetmetal) work. Employment outcomes related to this qualification are found in a wide variety of manufacturing and engineering related sectors as well as Engineering Tradesperson – Fabrication roles in other industries.
The client will generally be involved in the production, manufacture and repair of a wide range of light metal products, including ducts for air-conditioning, hospital & catering equipment, office furniture, refrigeration cabinets, tanks, vats and pipes using thin, flat sheets of metal. The metal sheets are mainly of zinc-covered steel, stainless steel, vinyl covered steel, copper and aluminium and usually are not more than 3mm thick. Clients involved in this type of work would work in an enclosed & well equipped workshop, use specialist measuring equipment and a range of hand tools.
The qualification has core units of competency requirements that cover common skills for the engineering industry, as well as a specialist field of work. Further training pathways from this qualification include MEM40105 Certificate IV in Engineering and MEM50105 Diploma of Engineering – Advanced Trade or other relevant qualifications.
